Philip Balderston
Founder & CEO, Odin Properties

Philip Balderston is the Founder and CEO of Odin Properties, a diversified regional real estate investment and management firm. Its affiliate companies own and manage over 6,000 multifamily units and 200,000 square feet of commercial space in the Northeast and Midwestern United States. Prior to starting Odin, Philip was the director of Acquisitions and Finance at Philadelphia-based Tower Investments Inc., responsible for financing various development projects and asset management. Before joining Tower, he was an Acquisition and Development Analyst at The KOR Group in Los Angeles. Philip has a profound understanding of real estate finance and economics, economic cycles, and community development, having completed over 600MM of real estate transactions as a Principal during his 15 year career. Philip also held an analyst and asset management position at Amerimar Enterprises in Philadelphia, is a graduate of the William Penn Charter School in East Falls, and holds a degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a degree in Real Estate Finance and Urban Studies from the Wharton School.

Dominic J. De Simone
Partner, Ballard Spahr

Dominic J. De Simone is the Co-Chair of the Finance Department, Practice Leader of Ballard Spahr's Real Estate Finance Group, and Team Leader of the firm's Private Equity Real Estate, Commercial Loan Servicing, and Distressed Real Estate Teams. He practices general real estate law, with a focus on real estate finance, transaction structuring and restructuring, and distressed real estate matters on behalf of lenders, special servicers, investors, and borrowers. Mr. De Simone also has extensive experience representing real estate purchasers and sellers, developers, landlords and tenants, and court-appointed receivers.

Mr. De Simone is particularly known for his work with balance-sheet and CMBS loan originations, construction loan transactions, intercreditor matters, loan and investment structuring and restructurings, and workout and enforcement matters, all involving such varied project types as retail, office, industrial, multifamily, student housing, hotel, residential and commercial condominiums including broken condominiums, single-family tract development, assisted-living facilities, gaming, and mixed-use developments. He has advised on a wide variety of single- and multi-lender financing structures, including acquisition, construction, revolving, leasehold mortgage, CMBS, and mezzanine loan transactions; subscription facilities; A/B loan splits; loan participations; note financings; New Markets Tax Credit transactions; sale-leaseback transactions; and bond financing transactions.

Mr. De Simone also has extensive experience in property and loan acquisitions and sales, development transactions, REO transactions, receivership matters and sales, as well as retail, office, and warehouse leasing transactions on behalf of both landlords and tenants, including retail tenant representation. His experience also includes build-to-suit, retail condominium, REIT-related, and military housing transactions.

Mr. De Simone is a member of the firm's Elected Board.

Before joining the firm, Mr. De Simone was a Relationship Manager in the Real Estate Banking Division of PNC Bank, where he was responsible for the origination, underwriting, closing, restructuring, and administration of various commercial real estate financing transactions.

Robert Falese
Senior Managing Director, Berkadia

Robert D. Falese, a Senior Managing Director and Branch Manager with Berkadia Commercial Mortgage and is responsible for managing the company’s Philadelphia Mortgage Banking team in originating commercial real estate loans through internal and external capital sources.

Bob has been a top loan originator with over a 20+ year career in the commercial real estate finance industry with Berkadia and its predecessor companies.Bob’s extensive loan origination experience includes, construction loans, interim loans, permanent mortgages, tax-free financing, participating mortgages, and equity investments.During his career in commercial real estate finance, Bob has originated transactions totaling more than $15 billion with more than 50 different capital sources including life insurance companies, banks, credit companies, investment banks, REITs and pension funds.Under Bob’s leadership, the Philadelphia Branch has established itself as a dominant capital markets provider and intermediary both in the region and nationally producing over $30 billion in new financing over the last decade.

Bob earned a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph’s University in Economics/Finance.

Geoffrey Gardner
CFA, Principal & Chief Investment Officer, Patriot Equitie

Mr. Gardner is a founding partner and Chief Investment Officer of Patriot Equities. He is responsible for the oversight of all aspects of new investments including origination, financial analysis, negotiation of terms, and capitalization. He has acquired assets with total project costs of nearly $1.0 billion. Mr. Gardner also serves on the firm’s Board of Directors as well as the firm’s Investment Committee that approves all new investments. Patriot has acquired assets from several large corporations, including Wells Fargo, Aramark, Broadcom, Continental Tire, Darden Restaurants and Macy’s.

Before founding Patriot, Mr. Gardner was the Director of Acquisitions for Preferred Real Estate Investments, Inc, a leading real estate firm focused on the acquisition, restoration, leasing and property management of existing commercial and industrial real estate. During his tenure with Preferred, he was responsible for the acquisition of 11 properties totaling over 6.0 million square feet with total project costs in excess of $300.0 million. These properties were acquired from several Fortune 500 companies including Texas Instruments, Ingersoll-Rand, Honeywell and Citizens Bank, a subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Scotland. Prior to Preferred Real Estate Investments, Mr. Gardner was an analyst with Credit Suisse First Boston based in New York.

Mr. Gardner received a B.S. Degree in Finance from the University of Delaware and was captain of the school’s football team. He is a member of the CFA Institute and has earned the right to use the CFA designation.

Joseph D. Pasquarella
Senior Managing Director, Newmark Knight Frank

Joseph D. Pasquarella, MAI, CRE, FRICS, joined Newmark Knight Frank's Valuation & Advisory as a senior managing director in 2017, when the firm acquired six affiliate offices of Integra Realty Resources. Mr. Pasquarella is a leader of the Philadelphia office, which covers the eastern half of Pennsylvania and the southern half of New Jersey.

Mr. Pasquarella has led numerous teams of experts in the valuation of portfolios of multiple properties throughout the United States. He has extensive experience in the valuation of malls, office buildings, warehouse and distribution facilities, multi-family residences, parking garages, hotels and vacant land. Mr. Pasquarella's clients have included life insurance companies, financial institutions, investors, developers, pension fund advisors, law firms, accounting firms, Fortune 100 companies and government entities at all levels. In addition to appraisals, feasibility studies and portfolio valuations, Mr. Pasquarella has provided expert testimony for general litigation, ad valorem assessment appeals, bankruptcy, and land development.

Actively engaged in real estate valuation since 1973, Mr. Pasquarella began his real estate career in the real estate investment department of the Prudential Insurance Company of America. Also, from 1973 to 1991, he served as an adjunct assistant professor of Real Estate at Temple University's Fox School of Business.

Ed Reitmeyer
CPA/MST, Partner, Marcum LLP

Edward J. Reitmeyer is partner-in-charge of the Tax & Business Services department in Marcum’s Philadelphia Office. Additionally, he chairs the Philadelphia Real Estate Services Group. He has over 30 years of public and private accounting experience in the real estate sector.

Mr. Reitmeyer provides integrated tax, transaction and advisory services to owners, builders, lenders and users of real estate. Mr. Reitmeyer specializes in tax restructuring and compliance, asset management, and capital restructuring. He also is skilled in developing real estate strategies, evaluating acquisitions and modeling, divestiture and development activities and debt financing options.
