Anirban Basu is Chairman & CEO of Sage Policy Group, Inc., an economic and policy consulting firm headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland with an office in Orlando, Florida.  The firm provides strategic analytical services to energy suppliers, law firms, medical systems, government agencies, and real estate developers among others.

Anirban Basu

Chairman & Chief Executive Officer Sage Policy Group, Inc.

Anirban Basu is Chairman & CEO of Sage Policy Group, Inc., an economic and policy consulting firm headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland with an office in Orlando, Florida.  The firm provides strategic analytical services to energy suppliers, law firms, medical systems, government agencies, and real estate developers among others. 

In 2014, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan appointed him Chair of the Maryland Economic Development Commission (2014-2021).  He serves as Chairman of the Baltimore County Economic Advisory Committee.  He is also the Chief Economist to Associated Builders and Contractors, the Chief Economist of the Maryland Bankers Association, and Chief Economic Advisor to the Construction Financial Management Association.  He serves or has served similar functions for Visit Baltimore, Maryland Realtors, and Marcum, LLP.  

He has lectured at Johns Hopkins University, most recently in Global Strategy, and has also taught international economics, urban economics, micro- and macroeconomics at Hopkins. His radio show can be heard weekdays on 88.1FM, WYPR, Baltimore.   

In both 2007 and 2016, the Daily Record newspaper selected Mr. Basu as one of Maryland’s 50 most influential people. The Baltimore Business Journal named him one of the region’s 20 most powerful business leaders in 2010.

Dr. Basu has been on many boards over time, including First Mariner Bank, the Baltimore City Public School System, Port Discovery, the Baltimore School for the Arts, and Union Memorial Hospital.  He is currently on the boards of the University of Maryland School of Law, St. Mary’s College, the University of Maryland Medical Center, the University System of Maryland Foundation, the Center for Emerging Media, the Lyric Opera House and the Archdiocese of Baltimore School System.

Dr. Basu earned his B.S. in Foreign Service at Georgetown University.  He earned his Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and his Master’s in Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park.  His Juris Doctor was earned at the University of Maryland School of Law.  His doctoral work was completed at UMBC with a concentration in health economics.

Bruce Bergstrom leads the Contract Surety group at Nationwide Insurance.  With over thirty years of experience working for major surety carriers in both Field and Home Office leadership roles, he has a  deep perspective on the construction and surety industry, which enables Nationwide to provide unique and agile solutions to their clients.  Through their fourteen regional Field Offices and experienced staff, Nationwide provides solutions to accounts ranging from small start-up contractors to national contractors. 

Matt Curran

EVP, Head of Surety, Sompo International

Matt Curran is the EVP, Head of Surety, at Sompo International and is responsible for leading their Surety Product line.  He started with Sompo in 2019 and during that time has been responsible for refocusing their client appetite to more sophisticated mid to large account business, building a very talented field underwriting team, and delivering on the long-term strategic plan.

Matt Curran

EVP, Head of Surety, Sompo International

Matt Curran is the EVP, Head of Surety, at Sompo International and is responsible for leading their Surety Product line.  He started with Sompo in 2019 and during that time has been responsible for refocusing their client appetite to more sophisticated mid to large account business, building a very talented field underwriting team, and delivering on the long-term strategic plan.  Prior to his senior leadership role at Sompo, Matt spent many years at a top 5 surety in various leadership positions as well as lead the efforts of a startup surety operation.  Those very diverse experiences over 30 years provided the foundation for his underwriting and leadership responsibilities at Sompo.  Matt has his AFSB industry designation and is a two-time winner of the SFAA Platinum Award for surety bond promotion and education efforts.  Matt earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Susquehanna University and continued his education at Rollins College where he earned his master’s degree.

Paul DiTredici

Paul DiTredici is co-leader of Marcum’s New York Construction Services practice, providing assurance, tax planning and compliance, and consulting services to general contractors, construction managers, and a wide range of subcontractors.

Paul DiTredici is a partner Marcum’s Assurance Services Group, providing assurance and consulting services to various types of clientele in the construction and real estate industries. He works closely with general contractors, construction managers, and a wide range of subcontractors. In addition, Mr. DiTredici also provides tax planning and compliance services. His expertise goes further than traditional areas of accounting as he is strategic planner and trusted business advisor for his clients.

With more than 20 years of public and private accounting experience, Mr. DiTredici has written many articles that have been published in various professional publications.

Paul actively participates in community and fundraising efforts. He serves on the board of directors as assistant treasurer of the Long Island Chapter of the Risk Management Association and is an active tribute committee member and supporter of Cooley’s Anemia Foundation.

Mr. DiTredici came to Marcum after the Firm joined forces with Castellano, Korenberg & Company in 2020.

Todd Ellsworth has over 20 years of experience in the construction industry. He is the Director of Professional Services at BuildingPoint Midwest & Gulf Coast.

 Todd studied Construction Management at Oklahoma State University and began his career with a large national contractor in the Preconstruction group. During his career, Todd has worked as a VDC lead for various companies, growing the knowledge that today has made him one of the industry’s leading virtual design and construction experts.

Prior to joining BuildingPoint shortly after it started, he spent a number of years as a partner in a company that directly consulted with various AEC companies all over the country. He’s spoken at a number of regional and national conferences around the subject of BIM/VDC and other emerging technologies.

 Today, Todd leads BuildingPoint Midwest & Gulf Coast’s Professional Services division, supporting hundreds of clients nationwide. Todd makes his home in New Orleans.

Chris Hillman

Contract Surety Bond Manager, Philadelphia Insurance Companies

Chris Hillman joined Philadelphia Insurance Companies in 2015 holding various roles in the Surety Division before becoming Contract Surety Bond Manager in 2020. Chris is responsible for the service and growth of PHLY’s Metro Region including New York City, Long Island, and New Jersey focusing on Middle to Large Market Contractors of all trades. Chris and his team work to understand and accommodate the business plans of their clients in order to create productive surety solutions that help clients reach their goals. Chris graduated from The College of New Jersey with a Bachelor of Science in Management with a focus in Finance and holds the AFSB designation.

Ira M. Kantor is partner-in-charge of the Accounting & Business Services department in the Firm’s Melville office, and a leader in its national construction industry group. He advises clients with financial statement preparation, tax compliance, tax planning, budgeting and forecasting, and business consulting.

Mr. Kantor is proficient in Statement on Standards for Accounting and Review Services (SSARS) and helps develop curriculum for the national Accounting and Business Services Department on an annual basis.

With more than 20 years of experience, Mr. Kantor has extensive experience serving clients in a variety of industries, with a niche working with closely-held businesses in the construction industry. He frequently speaks and is asked to write articles for industry organizations on topics related to accounting and auditing matters in the construction industry.

He is quite active in the construction business community, with leadership positions at the Construction Financial Management Association, Contractors for Kids, Real Estate Institute at Stony Brook University, and at the Institute of Management Accountants, among other community endeavors.

Joseph Natarelli

Joseph Natarelli is office managing partner in New Haven, Connecticut, and a member of the Firm’s Executive Committee. A specialist in accounting for construction contractors, Mr. Natarelli  also serves as national leader of Marcum’s Construction Services practice, overseeing audit, consulting, and taxation services to construction clients ranging from start-ups to multi-billion-dollar international enterprises.

Mr. Natarelli has more than 30 years of experience including advising on mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. He has served as a technical reviewer for the AICPA’s construction audit and taxation guides for more than two decades and had the privilege of chairing the AICPA National Construction Program Conference Committee from 2012-2014.

Mr. Natarelli is a valued advisor on diverse construction projects, providing expertise on improving job performance and enhancing profitability. He also provides thought leadership on various accounting and auditing matters as a conference panelist and contributing author to construction publications. He has been interviewed by numerous trade and business media outlets, including the Wall Street JournalBloombergBusinessweek, and Fox Business, among others.

Under Mr. Natarelli’s leadership, Marcum’s national Construction Services group has innovated a robust curriculum of industry summits and technical webinars focused on helping contractors continuously enhance their understanding of complex financial concepts and strategic planning. He also spearheaded several definitive industry resources for contractors, including the annual Marcum National Construction Survey, the quarterly Marcum Commercial Construction Index, the Marcum PAS Contractor Compensation Quarterly, and the annual Marcum JOLTS Analysis of construction employment trends. Construction Executive magazine has recognized Marcum as a Top Three construction services provider.

Leslie Spencer

Director, Trimble Viewpoint

Leslie is a Director of New Client Sales and has been with Viewpoint since 2013.  She started with the company as a Financial Analyst, creating department-level budgets and forecasts.  Leslie was an ERP admin and collaborated to create many of Viewpoint’s critical business processes.  Over the last 9 years, she’s had numerous Finance and Sales roles.  Currently, Leslie and her team help contractors leverage the power and efficiency of Viewpoint’s solutions. Leslie has been in the technology industry for 20 years, has an MBA from Babson College and has a BA from Wesleyan University.
